Apart from vowels, consonants also blend to form sounds. Word blends form an important part in English literacy and they are crucial for development of reading and spellings prowess in a child. At Chimple we believe that good reading comprehension requires two broad sets of abilities: word recognition and oral language comprehension. Each of these two elements includes a set of essential component skills which are specific to their own learning outcomes. The focus of Chimple is now on oral language comprehension where we plan to improve vocabulary proficiency , sentence creation and spoken language comprehension for the learner.

The learning of English reading progresses to ending, medial and beginning vowel sounds in words in chapter 8. The lesson starts with two letter simple words and progresses to three and four letter words. The progression of words makes it easier for the child to read them easily with the help of the friend who gives audio output. With practice this chapter would lay the foundation for reading English fluently for students. The chapter has 8 lessons with a challenge after 4th and 8th lessons for evaluation of learning.

The Chapter ensures that children get enough practice of tracing words. It reinforces learning of words which has happened in the previous chapters by helping the child to identify letters in a word besides identifying the name of each letter. It helps in applying the knowledge of letter-sound relationships, including knowledge of letter patterns, to correctly.
- 71
- 72
It is time for the students to practice typing letters and common words to increase their proficiency in digital skills. The child will learn typing on a qwerty keyboard which is important in our contemporary digital world. As children hear the sound read out-loud, see it on the screen and then type the corresponding key, the activity reinforces sound letter mapping skill in them.
- 73
Phonic sense helps children understand the sounds of letters in the beginning, medial and ending of words. The sounds are isolated from the word for the child to understand it accurately. Learning the phonics helps children read words easily, which is important for their learning.
The chapter has 8 lessons and 2 challenges. The challenge checks out the ability of the child to understand the sound that rightly fits into the word.
- 74
- 75
Word phonics isolates each sound of the word so that the child can understand the sound independently as well as when it is merged with other sounds to form a word. Since this chapter is crucial in building independent reading skills in a child, it is extensively spread across 11 lessons and 3 stages of evaluation.
Many lessons have images that will help the child increase their vocabulary of English language besides. The images make learning easy and simple for the child, holding their attention and prolonging their learning time.
- 76
Chapters 11 - 15 introduce rhyming words to children. Learning to read the English language is a difficult task, especially to children whose mother tongue is not English. Early learners get confused with many different patterns and rules they have to follow to read and pronounce the words properly.
Chimple gives importance to teaching word families, also called phonograms or “chunks,” which are groups of words that have a predictable pattern or “chunk.” Since word families have a common feature or pattern in the end and they all rhyme, it makes reading them easy for our early readers. They have the same letter combinations which create similar sounds. They are wonderful tools for those new to reading and for learning of spellings.
- 77
- 78
By the time the child reaches chapter 11, he/she will be able to combine sounds to create or read a word. Now it is time for the child to learn about the sounds created by joining two letters. Word family of ‘a’ includes sounds of ad, at, am, ap, an, ag, ay, ain art, air, etc which reinforces learning through repetition of these letters in different words. Word family chapters will improve the speed of reading in children. The chapter has 10 lessons with three evaluatory challenges to encourage accuracy and concentration in children.
- 79
Through interesting gamified activities the boring grammar lessons become interesting and engaging for the child. Through 9 lessons under the chapter children will identify that pronouns are words which take the place of a noun in a sentence, such as: she, he, I, them, they, it etc.
Going through the lessons the child will realize that the pronouns prevent repetition of nouns in a sentence making it compact and neat.
- 80
- 81
- 82
Children find reading the words which rhyme quite entertaining and a fun way to learn to read. Since it is predictable, they enjoy repeating the words, which helps them improve their speed of reading at the same time. Chapter 13 has 8 lessons and 2 challenges which help children learn words which end in ‘id, ide, it, ite, in, ing, ink, and many more.
- 83
To make children understand the right usage of articles, Chimple dedicates a whole chapter for it with four lessons. The first lesson introduces article ‘the’, the second one ‘a’ and the third ‘an’ and their placement in sentences. The articles are grouped together so that the learning will be easier for the child.
- 84
After specific grammar learning under chapters, the 27th chapter combines learning of Demonstrative words, Adverbs, Conjunctions, Opposites and Prepositions under the same chapters but different lessons. Since early learning doesn’t require detailed study of advanced English grammar, it is introduced to the learner without going in-depth and thorough learning of the subject.
- 85
By now children are able to identify how letters work together to make sounds on their own. Chapter 15 focuses on the word family of the letter ‘o’ and the chunk formed by combining the alphabet ‘o’ with other letters to form words ending in og, ox, ot, op, om, oom, ool and many more. The chapter has 6 lessons and 2 challenges for evaluation.
- 86

Chimple introduces an early learner to the logical order of introduction of reading skills. For early readers, especially for those whose mother tongue is not English a systematic, explicit and thorough understanding of phonics and word sounds is essential for literacy competence.
By now the child is now familiar with word families of vowels and is ready to acquire more reading skills. Apart from vowels, consonants also blend to form sounds. Typically two or more consonants are blended together to form a single sound in diagraphs - for example the two letter c and h have two distinct sounds but when combined in words like chair they make just one sound. On the other hand, few consonants when combined do retain their sounds and when you say the word, you can hear each sound separately even though they are blended together. For example in the words like ‘skirt’ or ‘clock’ though the consonants are blended, we can still hear different individual sounds of sk and cl.
Word blends form an important part in English literacy and they are crucial for development of reading and spellings prowess in a child. Consonant blends appear in the beginning of words with the most common blends being: bl, br, cl, ch, cr, dr, fr, tr, fl, gl, gr, pl, pr, sl, sm, sp and st. Blends can also occur at the end of words like st, nd,mp and many more . There are also blends which contain three consonants. Common three consonant blends include: str, spl, and spr. Chimple introduces blends in groups like those of h blends, r blends to make it easy for a child to understand before making it more challenging by mixing blending sounds.
There are 15 extensive lessons and 5 challenges in the chapter which improves proficiency in reading and writing English language.
- 89
Although explicit language and grammar in elementary school, it is important for students to learn about the most basic parts of speech, or grammatical forms, adjectives, its meaning and how to use it appropriately with nouns.
The Chapter has 4 different lessons which helps students to understand different adjectives and why they are important.
- 90
- 91
- 92
Through Simple Dictionary Chimple aims to develop students' vocabulary by encouraging curiosity about the meaning and use of unfamiliar words and promote the use of strategies that will help students find the meaning of unfamiliar words through images and their names.
In simple dictionaries children are exposed to frequently used words along with the context so that they retain the new words easily. Through most of the lessons, they read and listen to tags and drag them to match the objects in the picture. Children learn how to spell and pronounce those words and can visualize the word pictorially. Introducing words that are relatable and context friendly which are used in the spoken language with repetition helps early learners to acquire new words and further recognise high frequency words. This chapter also enhances the reading and listening comprehension skills of the students.
The 14 lessons under this chapter cover important names of animals, fruits and vegetables, sports, nature and many other words which we use in regular communication. It has 4 challenges for evaluation of the learning progress.
- 93
Chimple handles each number individually through lessons which includes saying number name, writing numbers, counting, and recognizing a number of objects for a specific number. The first chapter has 5 lessons and 2 challenges for evaluating how well the child has understood the numbers and their number recognition skill.
- 94
The Chapter has 7 lessons grouped under different categories of simple sentences with audio help from the Chimple friend.
The Chimple user is now familiar with letters, letter sound, combining and blending sounds to create words and meaning of words. It is time to start communicating in English with simple sentences now.
At Chimple we believe that good reading comprehension requires two broad sets of abilities: word recognition and oral language comprehension. Each of these two elements includes a set of essential component skills which are specific to their own learning outcomes.
In the previous chapters we have already covered topics of sound recognition and word formation by imparting knowledge of Phonological awareness, decoding skills and recognition of common words through our lessons.
The focus of Chimple is now on oral language comprehension where we plan to improve vocabulary proficiency , sentence creation and spoken language comprehension for the learner.
It is crucial to build word recognition abilities in children in early stages of learning when they begin to read common simple sentences which we come across frequently. We add more words to the vocabulary of a child using Chimple App so that even if the child has strong oral language comprehension skills, those skills cannot come into play while reading if he/she is unable to read many words.
- 95

The Chapter ensures that children get enough practice of tracing words. It reinforces learning of words which has happened in the previous chapters by helping the child to identify letters in a word besides identifying the name of each letter. It helps in applying the knowledge of letter-sound relationships, including knowledge of letter patterns, to correctly.
As they practice the lessons children begin to gain a sense of directionality in writing. The chapter introduces 3 letter words in the beginning and as students progress they learn to decode short, familiar meaningful words with gradually increasing accuracy. By the end of the Chapter, the child will be writing 6 letter words.
The Chapter has 4 lessons with 3, 4, 5 and 6 letter words and a challenge to check the learning outcome in the end. Besides writing the chapter will help in improving the reading and spelling skills of the students to a great extent.
- 97
- 98
It is time for the students to practice typing letters and common words to increase their proficiency in digital skills. The child will learn typing on a qwerty keyboard which is important in our contemporary digital world. As children hear the sound read out-loud, see it on the screen and then type the corresponding key, the activity reinforces sound letter mapping skill in them.
Repeated drill practices with different letter combinations and gradually focussing on spelling including common consonant vowel combinations, consonant clusters and sight words helps the student acquire a wide range of vocabulary.
Practice will help children become more acquainted with the qwerty keyboard and skilled with identifying placement of alphabets.
This chapter has two lessons, one for identification of letter and the other for typing out words. The challenge in the end will check their overall skill and is not related to typing skills.

English spellings are the one of the foundational skills which is essential for successful written communication. Children have to learn proper ways to spell words in their early stages of learning, since a word learnt to spell wrong will have to be unlearned to learn right spellings.
With the help of images and puzzles, the lessons help children identify letters by sight, and build associations between written patterns, vocal expressions and their meaning. English spellings are complicated and it is an art to correctly assemble words from their letters. The skill learnt by the child in this chapter becomes one of the essential components of successful writing in their future. Being confident at spelling leads to confidence in all aspects of literacy.
The chapter has 5 lessons with progression in difficulty of spellings and 2 challenges to evaluate the learning outcome.

Grammar is an important part of any language, especially an advanced language like English. It is essential for all students of english language to learn basic grammatical forms, or parts of speech, of the language before studying grammar at a deeper level and they go further in their academic progress.
Since explicit grammatical instruction usually does not start before elementary school, Chimple focuses on the most basic parts of speech such as nouns, adjectives, pronouns, articles, punctuation and verbs for early learners.
Grammar starts with the introduction of nouns in Chapter 23. The child will learn through interactive activities that Noun is a name of place, person, animals, or things. The 8 lessons are grouped in different objects the nouns represent to make learning easier for the child. Evaluation plays an important role in identifying how much the student has gained understanding of the topic being taught.
- 104
Through interesting gamified activities the boring grammar lessons become interesting and engaging for the child. Through 9 lessons under the chapter children will identify that pronouns are words which take the place of a noun in a sentence, such as: she, he, I, them, they, it etc.
Going through the lessons the child will realize that the pronouns prevent repetition of nouns in a sentence making it compact and neat. Without significant understanding of pronouns, it will be very difficult for children to develop their English Language competency. Keeping this in mind Chimple lessons will ensure the learner will have a firm grip through introduction, extension and revision of pronouns. The chapter also has 3 challenges for evaluating the learning outcome of the child.

Chapter 25 teachers children about verb - action words. If there is one part of grammar that children love learning, it is the verb. Verbs are words that show actions, motions, doing, or states of being and also demonstrates how someone feels. Chimple keeps the learning simple and fun for children to make their learning experience joyful for them. Going through the lessons, children will learn about different forms of verbs that are an absolutely necessary part of sentences. A sentence cannot work without an action verb.
Apart from learning verb as words, students will know how to use them in sentences. They also learn about verbs in past tense, present tense and future tense. Two challenges are placed in the chapter to know the dept of understanding the child gained through the practice with lessons.

Most of the non-english speakers have trouble placing right articles in sentences since most common languages do not use articles like a, an or the in their sentences. To make children understand the right usage of articles, Chimple dedicates a whole chapter for it with four lessons and 2 evaluation challenges. The first lesson introduces article ‘the’, the second one ‘a’ and the third ‘an’ and their placement in sentences. The articles are grouped together so that the learning will be easier for the child. Revision and challenges will combine the articles to reinforce the learning. By the end of the chapter, the child will be aware of the articles and its uses in English language, though further learning will be required to gain mastery over it.

Learning grammar is important because it will make a user comfortable with usage of English language - be it writing, reading or speaking. Chimple understands the importance of building a strong foundation at a young age with proper grammar, as without understanding the rules of a language there will be detrimental consequences of lacking the ability to communicate effectively, which occurs later in life.
It meets the requirements of early education of a child.

Using punctuation in the right way is highly important to write formally in English: more than just choosing the right words in the right order. Using punctuation in writing helps the reader to clearly understand the meaning of the message that is being conveyed.
Learning of proper punctuation will continue until college for a student. For children below 8 years, it is sufficient to understand, period or full stop, spaces between words, capitalization of words and question marks. Punctuation primarily helps to indicate the pauses and the emphasis on certain ideas or thoughts that are discussed in written text. The meaning of a sentence can change without proper punctuation, but that is not the focus of our lessons. Chimple introduces children to basic punctuations in a sentence so that they become familiar with it.
Each lesson is designed to introduce the learner to one form of punctuation only to avoid confusion and solidify the learning. There are 5 lessons and 2 challenges to help learning and evaluate the outcome of learning of the child.

Adjectives add colour to language, bringing life into sentences. However, children are unable to use adjectives flexibly until around four years of age according to observation done by researchers. Children having speech delay are known to omit adjectives in their sentences.
Adjectives are descriptive words which children find very funny and interesting, but at the same time, they are not easy to understand and learn. There are extensive easy lessons in this chapter which will help students to use words to describe people, places, things, ideas, and activities of their everyday life.
Although explicit language and grammar in elementary school, it is important for students to learn about the most basic parts of speech, or grammatical forms, adjectives, its meaning and how to use it appropriately with nouns.
The Chapter has 4 different lessons which helps students to understand different adjectives and why they are important. A challenge at the end of chapter will help in evaluation of the learning outcome of the earlier lessons.

Starting from Alphabet, sounds of letters, creation of words, spellings and grammar, students have gone through enough lessons to be now ready to create sentences.
The chapter introduces students to different types of sentences like - declarative sentences, interrogative sentences, negative sentences, sentences starting with pronouns and proper nouns. The learning through the chapter will be enough for the students to start their journey of creative writing, though there is a long way to go before they gain mastery over English language.
The chapter has 7 lessons and 2 challenges for evaluation.
- 118
Numbers are often introduced to children through number names. They start learning numbers incorrectly by recitation which only helps them to memorize their names without knowing what they represent. Memorizing number names does not lay the groundwork for the children to help them in future to apply math logic, number sense or logical thoughts to work out math problems.
Chimple handles each number individually through lessons which includes saying number name, writing numbers, counting, and recognizing a number of objects for a specific number. The first chapter has 5 lessons and 2 challenges for evaluating how well the child has understood the numbers and their number recognition skill.
- 119
The chapter Number Sense handles the numbers 1- 5 as a group rather than individually. Children will pair numbers with their representing number of objects, drag and drop numbers and arrange them in series.
The activities under these lessons help in developing basic skills such as number recognition, concentration, patience and a sense of achievement, which will stand children in good stead for further learning. The puzzles in Chimple app are designed to help develop hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills of a child since it requires precise matching of each piece.
The chapter has 3 lessons and 1 challenge for evaluation.
- 120
The chapter follows the previous pattern where the child learns each number individually through lessons which includes saying number name, writing numbers, counting, and recognizing a number of objects for a specific number. The chapter has 5 lessons and 2 challenges for evaluating how well the child has understood the numbers and their number recognition skill for numbers 6 - 10.
- 121
Number sense, or the basics of learning about numbers, is the first vital math skill a child must develop before starting school. The chapter has an extensive set of activities under 12 lessons which will strengthen the lessons learned in previous chapters.
Chimple encourages learning numbers through representation of pictures that represent the numbers under this chapter. Children are naturally visual and can build relationships between numbers and a represented item easily. Using representation or pictures to clarify a relationship with numbers and the quantities they represent makes the use of mathematics real to a child’s mind. Children will also learn to count forwards and backwards early in childhood to learn the relationship between numbers in the future.
The chapter has evaluation through 3 challenges.
- 122
Shapes are present all around us. Children notice different shapes in their surroundings though they don’t yet know that the shapes have names, properties and certain uses in our world. It takes time and effort for young children to learn the specific properties of each shape, such as the number of sides, specific name of the shape or how the shape looks.
Not many realize that shapes help children understand the alphabets and numbers better as well. It is crucial to their reading and writing skills as well, besides being the foundation of their geometry learning.
Chimple gives lots of practice with shapes to learners which helps to solidify their understanding of the two-dimensional structures. That knowledge of shapes gives the young children an advantage in many areas of learning.
Children will learn about shapes through matching them with their corresponding shapes, objects or names. Through this chapter children will learn that the name of the shape remains the same even if their size is different. They will get to match the 2D shapes with real life objects, giving them insight into how shapes are present in our everyday lives.
Categorizing and comparing shapes helps in learning the differences in shapes requires the child to focus on the specific characteristics of a shape. Chimple puzzles challenge the observational skills in a learner to identify the different shapes and to match them. By working in the lessons children learn how to compare different shapes and group similar shapes together. Those observational skills transfer to other areas since they are key skills in science and math.
The chapter has four lessons and 1 challenge for evaluation. The fourth lesson uses flash card method of teaching to make the child familiar with how the shape name appears.
- 123
The chapter follows the previous pattern where the child learns each number individually through lessons which includes saying number name, writing numbers, counting, and recognizing a number of objects for a specific number. Along with the previous skills, the skill of subitizing is included where the child will identify objects in groups. The chapter has 10 lessons and 3 challenges for evaluating how well the child has understood the numbers and their number recognition skill for numbers 11 - 20.

The chapter fills in any gaps in basic math skills that could have been missed in the chapters where numbers were given importance. This works as an intervention in order to fill the gaps so that the child can move forward in their numeracy learning with ease. The visual cues will help children group the objects in tens. This will further help them in math operations in future.
Another important aspect of learning in this chapter is the number series - Big to small. Counting backward is an important strategy that children will later use in solving subtraction problems. Through the number series, number order and big to small lessons, children are counting forward and backward which helps to develop understanding of relative size and how numbers are related to one another.
There are 2 challenges to evaluate the learning outcome of previous chapters and lessons.
- 125
The chapter does not follow the previous pattern where the child learns each number individually, but now learns them in groups of ten by gamified puzzles and writing. Through previous lessons the child has mastered numbers from 1 to 20, counting, and recognizing a number of objects for a specific number. Now it is time to speed up their number sense with numbers upto 100.
The child will speed through lessons and learn number names, what they represent and how to write them. The child can speed through these numbers with the concepts and skills acquired in previous chapters.
The chapter has 16 lessons and four challenges.
- 126
Children often struggle with math because in traditional teaching, math skills like ordering, estimating and comparing numbers can often get overlooked in lieu of learning to recognize number names/symbols, read and write numbers.
Chimple gives importance to the future of the child, rather than just making them appear good at math by reciting numbers. Hence, a great deal of attention is given to developing proper number sense in its progressive curriculum. Number sense is the ability for a student to recognize a number, it's value and its relationship with other numbers.

Through the 7 lessons under this chapter children will have an understanding of the numbers and their value they represent. They will also compare numbers which is a very essential part of building a student's number sense. They are also introduced to 3D shapes. There will be two checkpoint challenges to evaluate the learning outcome of the child.

This chapter is the beginning of Mathematical operations which forms the base of arithmetic, through the simplest way of manipulating numbers. Through the lessons under this chapter the student will learn the basics of addition. The chapter will teach the student how to add, sum or combine two or more numbers to make a new number - a total.
In the first lesson, addition is related to adding 1 to a number. The next lesson increases the number to 2. The progression makes it easier for the student to grasp the concept of addition effortlessly. The list of lessons below will show the progression that will take place in the chapter.
Add 1
Add 2
Add 3 and 4
Quick Addition 1
Quick Addition 2
Quick Addition 3
Count and Add -1
Count and Add -2
By the end of the chapter the child will understand that:
Addition is the term used to describe adding two or more numbers together
The plus sign ‘+‘ is used to denote an addition: 1 + 2.
The word 'sum', ‘total’ or the symbol ‘+’ may be used for addition.
It doesn’t matter in which order you add a group of numbers together as the answer will always be the same: 1 + 2 gives the same answer as 2 + 1
Working with different forms of addition, the child will gain thorough understanding of the concept of addition. The images and visuals aids in the Chimple app can have a huge impact on how students retain information. While words can be abstract and hard to retain working with the visuals tend to be more concrete and easier to recall. When learning is taking place with gamified activities it is a lot more engaging for the children.
- 128
Through its engaging gamified activities, Chimple enables a child to understand the subtraction facts, without hours of rote memorization, counting on fingers, or flash cards. Though subtraction is opposite of addition, but often a different thinking strategy works better. Chimple treats subtraction in the introductory level as an independent math operation without connecting it to addition.
Chimple lays strong groundwork for the subtraction facts so that the rest of elementary arithmetic would become easier to work with. Without thorough mastery of the subtraction facts, children tend to struggle as they tackle subtraction with bigger numbers. Learning subtraction through Chimple will help children develop skills that will avoid common difficulties which we face - like solving problems slowly, making mistakes frequently, and an overall lack of confidence in math.
Like in addition, subtraction also begins by subtracting one from a number in lesson 1. Slowly the difficulty is increased in progression so that the concept is understood by the child. The list of 7 lessons below shows the progression of Subtraction in the chapter. One the concept is understood, the child will move on to subtract numbers quickly by looking at number symbols.

Understanding the purpose of place value is very important because it is an invaluable tool when solving mathematical problems and understanding our number system. It is often observed that children confuse the number 14 with 41 if they do not know that 10 + 4 makes 14 and it is 40 + 1 that makes 41. Going through the chapter and understanding what a numeral means in context will also help children well when they add and subtract digits with more than one numeral. Without knowing place value children will not be able to complete the mathematical operation of addition and subtraction with regrouping.
Chimple dedicates a whole chapter to learning place value for children once they have completed understanding 3 digit numbers and are moving towards more complicated mathematical concepts/operations. The activity with the gamified placement of numbers through 12 lessons in the chapter should help the student understand that that the same numeral represents different amounts depending on which position it is in, for example - 4 can be either four, forty or four thousand depending on its place value. The chapter has 3 evaluations through challenges to predict the understanding of concept by child.
- 131
Under the chapter Math Sense is listed a group of skills that allow students to work with numbers by understanding concepts like:
Understanding quantities represented by numbers
Grasping concepts like more and less, and larger and smaller
Knowing even and odd numbers
Making number comparisons
Skip counting
3D shapes, and shapes around us
Place values of numbers
Though children have acquired enough skills through previous chapters, they need more practice with different concepts to master number sense. More practice with the lessons will help by promoting confidence and encouraging flexible thinking with numbers. It allows students to create a relationship with numbers and be able to talk about math as a language.
The list of skills in the lessons will show the progress a child will make in this chapter:

Chimple continues with the addition, progressing from the introductory Beginners programme to introduction to formal, structured learning of simple addition in this chapter. The engaging and gamified activities with visual clues which help children understand the addition, will help in creating learning strategies that will help students master concepts of adding more quickly.
Chimple lessons that use several different learning strategies to help children master addition can provide the framework children need to master basic math -- a necessary prerequisite for excelling in elementary math and beyond.
The lessons have different strategies implemented for higher learning outcomes. Chimple understands that children don't have to memorize complex addition problems to master the basics of addition. Hence we focus on helping students use counting with visual aid as manipulative to help them count and add objects. Counting and adding helps students understand the concepts behind math problems of addition besides strengthening their number sense.Apart from counting objects to add, the lessons have listings of all numbers that add to form 10 and 20 in separate lessons - Family of 10 and Family of 20.
By the end of this chapter, children are able to add smaller numbers without counting quickly. The more they practice the more will be their speed of addition.
The chapter has 16 lessons which extensively teaches addition through different concepts and gamified manipulatives. It also shows the relationship between addition and subtraction, - if 9 +1 = 10 then 10 - 9 = 1 or 10 - 1 = 9, thus preparing students for the next chapter of Subtraction Basic. The four challenges in this Chapter are crucial to understand whether the child is able to progress towards more difficult chapters.
- 133
The chapter Subtraction Basic follows a similar pattern of Addition Basics by introducing the Beginners programme to introduction to formal, structured learning of simple subtraction to students.
Since the student is already familiar with the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction( if 3 + 7 = 10 then the following are also true: 10 - 3 = 7), the progress through the chapter is easier. The engaging and gamified activities with visual clues which help children understand the subtraction besides helping in creating learning strategies that will help them master concepts of subtraction more quickly.
The lessons have different strategies implemented to teach the concept of subtraction to bring out higher learning outcomes. The focus is on teaching the concept rather than only allowing the child to memorize subtraction facts. Hence we focus on helping students use counting with visual aid as manipulative to help them count and take away objects to find out what remains. Counting and subtracting helps students understand the concepts behind math problems of subtraction where they understand that subtraction means what is left after taking away a smaller number from bigger or equal numbers. They learn to subtract different numbers from 10 and 20 through specific lessons to fortify their understanding.
By the end of this chapter, children are able to subtract smaller numbers without counting quickly. The more they practice the more will be their speed of subtracting numbers.
The chapter has 16 lessons which extensively teaches subtraction through different concepts and gamified manipulatives. The four challenges in this Chapter which will evaluate the progress of the child and help in tracking their learning outcomes from lessons.

Chapter 17 is exclusively teaching the students skip counting which is an important part of early numeracy as it is a basic skill used in many different practices in math. Skip counting is seen as a tool for telling time and counting money, a skill essential in our daily routine. It is also an essential tool in number skills as it lays a mathematical foundation for developing a students ability on other mathematical concepts.
The lessons will teach students to count forwards and backwards in twos, fives and other multiples. These are strategies that may be used to solve addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and an effective future mathematical experience.
The lessons in the chapters are as follows
Skip 2's Backward
Skip By 5's
Skip By 5's Backwards
Skip By 10's
Skip By 10's Backwards
Skip By 100
As the child progresses through the lessons, it will expand the range of numbers with which they can skip count.
Working with the lessons helps students see patterns in numbers besides laying a strong foundation for number sense and learning the multiplication facts. Here the student will transition from additive to multiplicative thinking.
- 135
Students have already compared numbers by counting. Through the different lessons, they are already aware of the values the numbers represent. Chapter 18 is specifically dedicated only to teach Number Comparison through the progessive lesson which will expand the range of numbers the student will be comparing. The numbers range from 1 - 999.
With adequate practice with this chapter students will be able to identify comparison facts like:
When two numbers are of equal value, we use the ‘=’ (equals) sign - 43 = 43
When one number value is smaller than the other we use ‘<’ (less than) sign - 34 < 43
When one number value is greater than the other we use ‘>’ (greater than) sign - 9 > 7
The number of 2 digits is greater than the number of one digit, the number of 3 digits is greater than the number having 2 or 1 digit and so on.
If two numbers have the same number of digits, we compare them on the basis of their extreme left digits. If two numbers have the same number of digits, we compare them on the basis of their extreme left digits. The number with the greater extreme left digit is greater.
The chapter has 8 lessons and 2 challenges to evaluate the knowledge the student has regarding number values.
- 136
Some math concepts in Chimple did not have specific chapters dedicated to it. It is possible that when the student is acquiring new skills and learning new concepts, he/she may forget the past lessons. Hence, revision of some important concepts is necessary.
Chapter 19 will allow students to revisit and reinforce concepts of
Ascending and Descending
Even and Odd Numbers
Odd Numbers
Count Backwards
The student will benefit through the revision firstly, by remembering facts, figures, topics and methodologies that he/she had covered some time ago. Secondly, If done correctly it will help increase the student’s confidence and reduce anxiety to work with higher math operations.
The chapter has 7 lessons and 2 evaluations through quizzes to check the progress of the learner.
- 137
Children are already familiar with order of numbers through their learning from previous chapters. The chapter embarks on reinforcement of learning through a gamified learning procedure. Children learn sequences in different formats which progresses in increasing levels of difficulties to make children familiar and well competent in number ordering skill. This concept is the base of the learning of number series in high school.
Being able to observe, recall, and sequence numbers in a specific order is an important math skill. Through the lessons in this chapter, children learn about orders of numbers in relationship to other numbers shown. The interactive game will allow them to place numbers in a specific order so that they can move on to perform more complex tasks requiring this particular skill in future.
The lessons develop progressively with each activity building carefully to enhance and improve the skill the child has learned in the previous lessons, hence improvising and building on their knowledge already acquired.
The chapter has 8 lessons and 2 challenges for evaluation of learning.
- 138
Multiplication is one of the four basic operations of arithmetic which gives the result of combining groups of equal sizes. Learning multiplication though is not as easy as it sounds.
Students who are good at addition, sometimes struggle with Multiplication because they do not understand that multiplication is nothing but repeated addition. With visual aids and gamified activities, Chimple teaches this concept by showing multiplication by adding equal groups of the same numbers together.
Multiplication loses its complexity and becomes simple when the child realizes that the same number repeated in addition, then we can write that in the form of multiplication. They also learn that Multiplication is represented by the signs cross ‘×’.
Not to overwhelm the learner with a new operation skill, the lessons start with a simple table of ‘1’ and multiplication of the number 1. Under this chapter, the child is learning multiplying numbers by 1, 2 and 3 besides learning time tables for the same number.
Multiplication is also presented in the form of skip counting. All the different methodologies will help the student to understand the multiplication concept even without guidance.
The list of the lessons below gives an insight into the progressive learning of multiplication in Chimple.
Table of 1
Count and Multiply 2
Table of 2

To evaluate the understanding of students of the above mentioned 7 lessons, there are 2 challenges in the chapter.
- 139
The progressive pedagogy of Math curriculum in Chimple ensures that the child has understood the number value, place value and number order before teaching addition by regrouping to a student.
Even if students are familiar with addition, regrouping and adding numbers can be a challenge because it has to be executed in a systematic way following rules. First and foremost in the list is for the students to be thorough in their place-value understanding to comprehend how regrouping is performed.
Students are also introduced to vertical addition in this chapter, which the way it will be continued through their future academic learning. The whiteboard provided for calculation will build confidence in children to work on addition without counting objects. The 8 lessons in this chapter are grouped in a way that learning is easy for the students. There are two challenges to evaluate the progress of the child.
- 140
To increase the speed of performance and to master the skill, practicing addition is a must for all students. No matter how well students have understood the operations conceptually, it is equally important to master it through more practice.
Students need to revisit ideas, revise and practice to learn math deeply and master the subject. Practice is easy for children in the Chimple app, since they are guided towards the right answer through trial and error methods.
This chapter has 19 lessons, besides five evaluatory challenges helps children gain more confidence in performing addition.
- 141
The foundation for subtraction is already laid by introducing children to count backwards in previous lessons. Students can count and subtract in early stages of learning, but they have to work abstractly on numbers when working with larger numbers where counting can be difficult.
After the first lesson in the chapter, children work on more complex subtraction calculations and problems to master the operational skill. With the lessons increasing in level of difficulty, students will be encouraged to record their calculations properly, consistently and clearly with the aid of the working board provided in some lessons. Once they start using much higher numbers increasingly the subtraction calculation they develop the skill required to perform more complex problem-solving tasks in advanced math.
Even if students score good points in the lessons, it pays to repeat the calculations to improve their speed and accuracy, besides mastering the skill of speed subtraction.
The chapter has 12 lessons and 3 challenges for evaluation of the student’s progress under this chapter.
- 142
With addition and subtraction progressing to regrouping with larger numbers, it is important to reinforce the learning of place value concepts to students once again. Children will be learning place values of 3 digit numbers.
The 10 lessons will give adequate practice to students to get very familiar with the place value of all 3 digit numbers. To evaluate the understanding of the concept, there are 2 evaluatory challenges which will show their progress.
- 143
Chimple shifts the focus of students on problem solving rather than on getting the right answer. The transition of learning to symbolic math is complete through previous chapters, that is the student can perform the mathematical operations without counting objects.
The chapter includes mathematical operations of addition, subtraction and multiplication which are different forms of counting. After learning through specific chapters for each operation earlier, it is time for the student to progress to perform them together. The chapter will be testing students for their learning outcome of understanding the mathematical concepts in earlier lessons.
Students will learn and practice working on adding 3 different digits numbers, add and subtract numbers in the same problem and time tables of 3 and 4 under this chapter.
Successful completion of the chapter with a good evaluatory score in challenges is an indicator that the student is now competent in everyday mathematics and is ready for higher studies of the subject.
The chapter has 12 lessons and 3 challenges.
- 144
Students are familiar with Addition through the previous chapters. Addition is one of the first math operations that children learn in their formative years. Understandably, they require a lot of practice to master it which was given to them through previous chapters. Chimple’s lessons under the advanced chapter for early learning will hone children’s skills in adding numbers, without making the experience repetitive and boring since they are presented under different gamified manipulatives.
Under the chapter children will learn to add double digit numbers, regroup numbers when they are bigger than 10 and also to work on simple word problems of addition. There are 23 lessons for children to solidify their learning of addition through this chapter. Besides it has 5 challenges to check the progress and track the understanding of the concept about advanced addition problems.
- 145
Ideally, children should master the subtraction facts by the time they start second grade education. Without mastering the subtraction facts thoroughly, they will not be ready to work on more complex multi-digit subtraction problems. Working through the advanced subtraction facts will make children more confident and successful in math.
Under the lessons in this chapter, students will learn to regroup numbers to subtract. They will also work on word problems with subtraction. This will make them more thorough with their basic mathematical operations.
The chapter has 23 lessons and 5 challenges to evaluate the progress of the student.
- 146
Proficiency in basic multiplication through memorization of times tables are the essential building block in math. Learning multiplication will be the first step towards higher studies of algebra in future.
Chimple simplifies multiplication by showing it as repeated addition through visual quantities. This will demystify the complexity of multiplication. Under this chapter children will learn times tables from 1 to 10. They get adequate practice with multiplication problems in simple form as well.
There are 8 lessons and 2 challenges to evaluate understanding of the multiplication concept in children.
- 147
The chapter continues the learning of the previous chapter; only difference being that here the problems are chosen randomly, without having a pattern to follow. The lessons will allow students to practice their times tables with a range of different numbers. Basically created for testing the cognizance of multiplication concept in students, this chapter has 4 lessons and one challenge.
- 148
The word problems are based on already learned skills of addition, subtraction and multiplication, yet it takes math understanding to the next level for the student. When working on word problems, students will have to use their reading and comprehension skills while also applying everything they’ve learned in previous math chapters.
Mastering the art of solving word problems will need a lot of practice for any student. They need to practice word problems frequently since they are the most essential part of numeracy skills. It is through the words problems that children will learn the application of the learned math skill and how it permeates into all aspects of our life. Practice with the game will help the child develop logical analysis and creative thinking in connection as to how they can be used in our everyday activities.
If a child will not learn to evaluate and understand the most common questions in word problems along with fluency of using the right math operations to solve it, they will lose interest in studying it further forcing them to make errors or skip them completely during educational evaluations.
By the end of the chapter the student will be able to :
Understand how math applies in real life situations
Develop higher order thinking and critical thinking skills
Apply different math concepts simultaneously
Creative advantage of math
This chapter has 12 lessons and 3 challenges based on the problems the child has already worked with to check their understanding and track their progress.

Hindi alphabet is made of Vowels and Consonants but unlike in English in Hindi all the vowels come at the start of the alphabet. Chimple embarks the students on the journey of learning Hindi by learning the vowels in the first chapter. They learn the vowels अ to अः + अँ individually through Chimple’s gamilfied lessons and quizzes. Since the Hindi letters are very similar to each other, children need more practice through reading and writing as well to distinguish them. Teaching the letter will help them see that अ a but आ aa has an extra vertical line on the right hand side and उ doesn't have the line at all.
The chapter has 14 lessons and 4 challenges for evaluating the learning of the child.
- 150
Hindi language has 33 consonants and 4 combined consonants क्ष, त्र, ज्ञ and श्र. Learning all the letters can be a daunting task for any student, especially the young children who will get confused in proper pronunciation and identification of these letters.
Presentation of all the vyanjans in a simple, concise and effective way with high learning outcomes is not an easy thing to do, but Chimple could achieve this with technology and gamified learning which entertains as it teaches. The helping friend and voice over from audio will be great help for those who are learning without guidance from a tutor.
The chimple curriculum follows the order of the Hindi Alphabet even though the lessons for each letter is separate. The letters are grouped as per their pronunciation, so it is best to let the students learn them in order.
The chapter has 37 unique lessons, starting with क and ending with श्र. Each of the lessons has different extensive practice in writing as well. After each group of letters, a challenge is used as a checkpoint to evaluate the learning of the student. There are 8 challenges in this chapter.
- 151
Students have enough practice with reading and writing letters from previous lessons. Chapter Varnamala will focus on reinforcing and fortifying the learning which has already happened.
The focus here will be on the flow of learning and identification of letters in a group. They will fill puzzle boards, math the letter and learn to use the keyboard to click on letters. They will become adept in identifying letters quickly through these lessons which is highly essential for word formation and reading.
The chapter has 7 lessons and 2 challenges to evaluate the learning outcome of the student.

Students have mastered the Varnamala through previous lessons. Now it is time to arrange them to create words and know how letter sounds form meaningful words when combined in order.
Students will play puzzles which are self corrective, i.e, they will eventually get to the right answer even if they do not know to read the words correctly in the beginning. This works as a practice for their reading skills and improves their spellings.
Since it is unlike books where they have to passively read words, the active participation through the gamified lessons will keep them happy and engaged throughout the chapter. The students are very encouraged to know that they are able to read small words now, though reading will require them to acquire skill of reading Matra’s as well besides Varnamala.
The chapter has 9 lessons and 3 challenges.

Chimple learners are able to read simple words in Hindi through previous lessons. Now comes the more complicated learning of combining vowels and consonants to create new sounds.
If the concept is not understood in the beginning, Hindi matras can be very confusing for students. Chimple dedicates 4 chapters to teach Matras, so that the concept is understood by students.
Hindi matras are symbols associated with each swar or sound in Hindi. The word is pronounced according to the matra linked to each letter. The sound pronounced is a combination of both of the swar the matra that is associated with. An introductory lesson will show students how the sound of swar is added to change the sound of consonants.
Students will work on the letters through the edtech aided gamified version of lessons which explains the concept clearly and will help them remember this more strongly in future.
Since pronunciation is the key to learn Matras, we at Chimple have created audio help through which the student can identify different between the short and long vowel sounds. The audio helps the child understand how a word is pronounced thus helping him/her understand how a matra is used with that word. For example, ‘ इ ki matra ि has a short sound while ‘ई ki matra ी’ has a long sound. Working through various lessons will help a student understand clearly which matra to put with the letter depending on how it is pronounced. Practice and more practice with the chapters is the key for success here.
Each letter learning is followed by extensive lessons involving the words of the matras learned in previous lessons.
आ - ा की मात्रा
आ के शब्द - 8 lessons
इ - ि की मात्रा
इ के शब्द - 3 lessons and so on.
The number of lessons are created according to the frequency of the usage of that particular letter in Hindi language. Whereas there are 8 lessons for आ के शब्द, there are just 3 lessons in इ के शब्द since there are more words with आ की मात्रा. The student will get enough practice with the new letter learned before moving on. The words with matras that are not yet learned are avoided through the lessons to prevent confusion in the learner. This makes it easy for the progression through the lessons and chapters.
As the student progresses through the lessons, the more adept he/she will be in Hindi reading skills.

Barahkhadi is continuation in the learning of Matras. Through learning Matras the student has understood that the twelve vowels when put behind a Hindi consonant gives us twelve different sounds for each consonant. The word ‘twelve’ translates to “barah” in Hindi, hence the name “Barakhadi”. Since the extensive learning of Barahkhadi can be monotonous, Chimple brings in different forms of gamified techniques which will keep the students engaged with its variety.
In the chapters of Matras, the lessons were grouped per the swar or matra. Now to fortify the concept, in the chapters of Barakhadi the words are grouped according to the consonants. Students will be learning the words and sounds associated with a particular consonant combining with all vowels. For example: क का कि की कु कू कृ के कै को कौ कं कः
Looking at the same letters under different groups will enable students to understand and memorize them in the most effective way.
There are 16 lessons and 5 challenges to evaluate the final learning outcomes of students through the exercises.

Half consonants are an important part of Hindi reading and writing skills since they are frequently used to create words and most Hindi consonants have a half consonant. Chimple will take the students through different words to consolidate the learning of half consonants in Hindi language.
Students learn through interactive activities which makes the tedious easy and engaging. By the end of the chapter, with enough practice with the lessons, students will understand that the full-forms (पूर्ण आकार) of consonants have inherent short vowel 'schwa' and the half-forms (अर्ध आकार) of consonants actually represent true consonants and thus don't have schwa. The half letters in Hindi are equivalent to phonetic sounds students learn in English.
Considering the students are in the beginner levels of learning Hindi, Chimple concentrates on enabling them to understand the pronunciation of letters and how to read/write them. Our curriculum doesn’t delve into extensive explanations which can confuse younger students. The interactive activities with different words will ensure comprehensive learning for the child.
The chapter has 9 lessons and 3 challenges to evaluate the understanding of the chapter for the students.

One of the toughest challenges for teachers and parents alike is to compel children to read and write for practising the language. It is a tedious and monotonous task, which doesn’t hold the attention of children for a long time.
Chimple reading is a set of interactive activities which gives children the opportunity to learn to read with the spirit of playing a game.
The lessons have groups of words with similar skills required so that the children do not have to struggle to read them. Moreover the chimple friends are always available to help them pronounce or uneducated words better. Each lesson has different forms of interactive activities which breaks the monotony and keeps the children engaged.
It should be noted that it is not enough to complete the chapters and clear out with a good score in challenges, but to practice more to gain speed in reading skills.
The Chapter has 8 lessons and 2 challenges to evaluate the learning outcome of the student.

Handwriting is an important part of literacy and an essential skill for life. Not many understand the challenge children face when writing by holding a narrow pencil or pen. The finger tracing of words helps the child to concentrate completely on the task at hand without being distracted by balancing the pen or pencil.
In group learning, a teacher is unable to see the pattern with which the child writes a letter. Chimple has a great technique which rejects wrong direction of flow for writing a letter. It ensures that the child will learn to write in the right pattern. The direct purpose of the tracing letters/words in the app is to teach the child the flow of writing letters, the sounds of the alphabet and correct pronunciation of words by means of muscular and visual memory. The child is encouraged to trace the symbol over and over again until the shape of the letter becomes a part of the child's muscle memory. The writing exercises not only improve the handwriting of the child, but will also help the child spell words more accurately and read them faster.
The chapter has 8 lessons and 2 challenges to evaluate the learning outcome in the child.

Learning to read sentences gives a student’s morale a huge boost. Their confidence level goes up tremendously though they are doing nothing different from what they have done in the previous lessons. Under this chapter, the words are arranged in the form of sentences for improving the reading of students.
Students have help in the form of visual image, action for completing the sentence and auditory reading of the sentence created by the child. Since the child has to interact with the app to complete the sentence, their attention will remain more focused on the lesson than it will be in passively reading from a book.
The chimple friend will express happy or sad emotions to guide the student towards the correct way of forming the sentences which further improves their engagement in learning. The sentences are basic and simple so as to not to overwhelm the student but enough to prepare them for learning grammar in the next chapter.
The chapter has 11 lessons and 3 challenges for evaluating the learning outcome of the student.

Grammar is an integral part of any language. Without grammar, the language loses its aesthetic beauty. Students are now familiar with reading, writing and also reading sentences. They are ready to learn grammar as their next step.
Chimple begins the grammar lessons with Nouns which are words for objects, places, emotions, animals, and people. Unlike in English where objects are in neuter gender, in Hindi, all nouns have either a masculine) or feminine genders. Students have to become familiar with the gender of Hindi nouns since it is very crucial for proper grammar and communication.
Keeping the teaching of संज्ञा simple, Chimple introduces the noun words through images under categorized groups. Children learn nouns related to animals, fruits and vegetables, body parts etc grouped together in a lesson. This simplifies the learning process of grammar for new students. Without going deep into teaching rules, words are presented to the child so that they can understand and memorize them.
The chapter has 16 lessons with activities that include, identifying and filling nouns appropriately, labelling pictures with noun words and paring nouns which is intermittent with challenges after every 4 lessons to evaluate the learning outcome of students.
- 165
Since now the students are aware of noun words, it is time to teach them the words that describe nouns. Adjectives are interesting to learn. Though in English adjectives do not have genders, in Hindi some adjectives change with gender. Also they change with the number they identify with. For example if we take the adjective small, it remains the same in English but will change in Hindi.
A small boy - छोटा लड़का
A small girl -छोटी लड़की
Small boys - छोटे लड़के
Small girls - छोटी लड़कियाँ
Knowing noun gender is important to use adjectives appropriately. Becoming familiar through practice is the best for the younger children to learn rather than going through theory and explaining grammar to them in their early years of learning.
The visual and auditory help available in Chimple App helps the child enjoy their journey of learning adjectives through engaging interactive activities. Some adjectives like रंगबोधक विशेषण, गुणवाचक विशेषण , and संख्यावाचक विशेषण are grouped together to help students understand and memorize them easily.
The chapter has 9 lessons and 3 challenges to evaluate the progress of students in learning hindi adjectives.

Chimple teaches verbs in the earlier stages through just simple words and sentences that represent verbs. Since most of the learners are young children, it is important for them to become familiar with verb words before they move on to lessons about the present, past, and future tenses in verbs. Learning about verbs is important since it is the second most used part of speech after the noun.
Chimple introduces verbs in general to students as verb words and how they appear in a sentence so that they understand what is the function of the word. Once they understand the concept that a verb is an action word. As they work with the activities in the lessons, students understand that verbs are used to describe an action, a state, a fact or an emotion. Once they know the function of the verb, more complex learning of tenses is introduced in the lessons वर्तमान काल में क्रिया, भूत काल में क्रिया, and निरंतर कार्रवाई.
The learning happens through different gamified activities which guides the student to arrive at the right answer eventually. The more students practice with the lessons, the more fortified is their understanding of the subject.
There are nine lessons and 3 challenges in this chapter.

पूर्वसर्ग are prepositions in Hindi language. Some tend to call it postpositions in Hindi because they always come after a noun or a pronoun unlike in English where they are positioned before a noun or pronoun.
For example:
कुत्ता कुर्सी के नीचे बैठा है।
The dog is sitting under the chair.
We can observe in the sentences above the difference between the position of the prepositions. For students who are not familiar with Hindi but are well versed in English grammar, more practice with the position of the prepositions in a sentence is required to adapt to this change.
After giving examples to children about the preposition words through the first lesson, they usually are presented in a sentence to the students in further lessons. Students are given multisensory learning experience through visual, auditory and kinesthetic exposure while going through the chapter.
The chapter has 4 lessons and a challenge for evaluating the progress of the student.

Students are introduced to pronouns as through their appearance in meaningful sentences. Typically pronouns appear in a compound sentence. In chimple the sentences are created in simple form keeping in mind the young users. Only simple pronouns like मैं, तू, वह, हम, मैंने, आप, कोई, कुछ, कौन etc are introduced to students. This introduction to pronoun works as a foundation for more advanced learning of different types of pronouns in Hindi grammar.
Students find these interactive lessons interesting. While typically learning grammar is really boring and dull, if taught with interactive gamified activities, it can be fun, exciting and interesting.
The chapter has 3 lessons and 1 challenge for evaluation.

Reading is a crucial part of our education. Considering the learning potential besides the positive effects of reading on child development/self confidence, Chimple brings more practice to improve their reading skills furthermore ensuring that reading is a key part of children’s daily routine.
If students have practiced enough with previous chapters, they should be able to read small books easily on their own. Chimple makes certain that their reading skills are mastered by introducing more complex and compound sentences in this chapter.
No amount of practice is enough for reading since reading can be a stable source of information and acquisition of knowledge throughout a child’s life. Reading can be challenging for early learners. Chimple gives its students ample support through audio and visual help besides the Chimple friend who is always available to guide the student.
The chapter has 5 lessons with different forms of sentences and two challenges to evaluate the learning outcome.
